Instructions:
In this workshop, we’ll practice developing effective communication skills through role-playing scenarios. Work with your group to act out each scenario. After each scenario, take a few minutes to reflect on your performance and discuss how you can improve.
Scenario 1: Addressing a Teammate’s Frustration
Situation:
A teammate is upset because they feel they aren’t getting enough playing time. You’ve noticed their frustration is affecting their attitude during practice.
Goal:
Use "I" statements and active listening to address the issue without escalating the conflict.

Scenario 3: Speaking Up in a Team Meeting
Situation:
During a team meeting, you disagree with a strategy being proposed and want to share your perspective respectfully.
Goal:
Speak up confidently while being respectful of others’ opinions.

- What language will you use to show respect for others’ opinions?

Scenario 4: Resolving a Conflict After a Game
Situation:
You and a teammate had a misunderstanding during a game, leading to a heated exchange.
Goal:
Use effective communication to resolve the conflict and restore teamwork.

- How will you start the conversation to resolve the conflict?
- How will you manage your emotions during the discussion?
Reflection:
- How did you work together to resolve the conflict?
- What will you do to prevent similar conflicts in the future?
Homework: Daily Communication Goals
Instructions:
Now that you’ve practiced these communication skills, it’s time to apply them in your daily life. For the next week, set one communication-related goal each day. At the end of the week, reflect on your progress.
Daily Communication Goal Example:
- Today, I will practice active listening during team meetings.
- I will use "I" statements when expressing my feelings with others.
