Stress Management Workshop Handout

Stress Management Workshop Handout

Workshop Overview:

This workshop guides participants through identifying stress triggers in specific scenarios and applying practical stress management techniques. It involves both individual reflection and group discussions to foster a deeper understanding of stress responses.

Section 1: Stress in Action

  • Objective: Understand stressors and their impact on performance.
  • Activity:
    • Discuss how stress affects decision-making, performance, and well-being.
    • Learn the importance of recognizing stress signals early to apply management techniques.

Section 2: Scenario Introduction and Group Formation

  • Objective: Analyze stress-inducing scenarios.
  • Activity:
    • Groups are assigned different real-life scenarios (e.g., an athlete facing game pressure, a professional preparing for a presentation).
    • Each group will analyze the scenario, identify stress points, and determine how to apply stress management techniques.

Section 3: Identifying Stressors and Reactions

  • Objective: Identify stressors in each scenario and discuss reactions.
  • Activity:
    • Groups will discuss stressors in their scenario, rate the stress levels (1-10), and consider how individuals might react (e.g., nervousness, tension).

Reflection Questions for Groups:

  1. What specific stressors are present in your scenario?
  2. How stressful is this situation for you on a scale of 1-10?
  3. How would you feel physically and mentally in this situation?

Section 4: Applying Stress Management Techniques

  • Objective: Apply stress management techniques to the scenario.
  • Activity:
    • Groups will choose 1-2 techniques (mindful breathing, positive self-talk, grounding techniques) and practice them.

Techniques:

  1. Mindful Breathing: Lead a 1-minute breathing session.
  2. Positive Self-Talk: Reframe negative thoughts with affirmations.
  3. 5-4-3-2-1 Grounding: Use the senses (sight, touch, sound) to stay present.

Section 5: Group Presentations and Discussion

  • Objective: Share findings and learn from each group’s approach.
  • Activity:
    • Each group presents their scenario, identified stressors, and applied stress management techniques.

Discussion Questions:

  1. How did applying these techniques change your perception of stress?
  2. Did the techniques make you feel more in control?
  3. What did you learn about how you respond to stress?

Section 6: Self-Assessment and Reflection

  • Objective: Reflect on personal stress responses.
  • Activity:
    • Complete a Stress and Anxiety Self-Assessment to gauge stress levels.
    • Reflect on how to apply the techniques in real-life situations.

Section 7: Conclusion and Key Takeaways

  • Objective: Summarize key lessons and encourage application.
  • Activity:
    • Review the key techniques (breathing, self-talk, grounding).
    • Share one actionable takeaway.
    • Use a worksheet to track progress in applying stress management techniques in real life.
